|A girl assassin Ubisoft is suddenly too lazy to make|
Ubisoft, maker of the wildly popular Assassin's Creed series, trotted out the latest chapter in their epic series yesterday and everyone (including myself) was completely on board at first. Assassins in Paris during the French Revolution! What's not to love?
Well, apparently Ubisoft can beautifully and painstakingly render 18th century France but they can't gather up the give-a-damn to render a few female characters. Because it isn't like women are 51% of the population or 40% of the gaming public. It isn't like a noted REAL LIFE assassin at the time was a woman. Nooo, none of these matter. No female characters for you!
Guys, I am just so fucking tired of this. I can't even work up enough energy to really rant hard against it, because I've ranted about it before. Their sheer laziness is especially heinous because their past games (Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood and Assassin's Creed 3) had playable female characters! For fuck's sake, they made a whole mini-game DLC about the one from AC:3! And now suddenly it's too difficult to make female characters?
After games like Mass Effect, Bioshock: Infinite and The Last of Us, which all features incredibly and compelling female characters, we're now taking two steps back to rail against a game company that said it would be too hard to make female characters. It's enough to make you scream.
|Awesome tweet about this insanity|
Personally, I'm never buying another Ubisoft game again. I'd be more than happy to continue to give my money to Bioware. It's sad that in 2014, a game company thought an acceptable answer was it's too difficult to make female characters. Absolutely sickening.
I am so done with this. Being a woman is exhausting when it feels like every day you're being pummeled for simply daring to exist. I just want to play a fucking video game, Jesus fucking Christ.
