Deeply Geeky Yarn for Deeply Geeky Knitters

by Sara N.

Sometimes, you just don't want to shout about your fandom. No, sometimes, you'd rather whisper your love of Doctor Who or Star Trek or Mass Effect or My Little Ponies.

One of my favorite Etsy shops has the yarn you need for those days when you want to keep your pop culture obsessions subtle. Knit and Fiber Creations features custom, hand-painted yarn colorways inspired by some of your favorite sci fi/fantasy/gamer/comics/geek properties. Check out some of the pretties:

Hulk-inspired glitter yarn

Melisandre-inspired yarn from Game of Thrones

TARDIS-inspired yarn from Doctor Who

Effie Trinket-inspired yarn from Hunger Games: Catching Fire

Guinan-inspired yarn from Star Trek: The Next Generation
(I have to believe this is the only time Whoopi Goldberg has inspired someone in the fiber arts.)

Twilight Sparkle-inspired glitter yarn from My Little Ponies

Liara T'soni-inspired yarn from Mass Effect

Curious how the yarns look when they're knitted up? They make sweet little stripes! Here's the Tate from American Horror Story colorway in skein form and mid-knit.

You'll have to check out the rest of the shop for all of the other super cool creations. Right now, the Etsy store is also featuring yarn colorways inspired by The Walking Dead, The Lord of the Rings, True Blood, Harry Potter, The Smurfs, Animal Crossing and even 50 Shades of Gray. There's even a line of Pride and Prejudice-inspired yarns, including Lizzie and Mr. Bingley. The shop regularly rotates through all kinds of shows, movies, cartoons and games, so it's always worth a check back every few months.

As for me? I'm coveting that Hulk yarn. That would make a ferocious pair of socks, don't you think?

  1. Wonderful - yay yarn! Etsy is also home to this Firefly Yarn Club, which I am definitely going to join one day.
