The 2nd Annual Stella Award Nominees!

Tonight is like Christmas Eve for Hollywood. Tomorrow morning the Oscar nominees come out. What a glorious day it will be. Will 12 Years A Slave dominate all the categories? Will Jennifer Lawrence be up for yet another Oscar? Will someone FINALLY hurl an award at Leonardo DiCaprio so he can stop making Oscar bait movies?

The one thing we can be sure about is that some of the best science fiction and fantasy movies from 2013 will be ignored completely. The only hope we have is Gravity, a high brow sci-fi movie that the Academy might throw a bone at.

What about the movies that really thrilled us this year? What about the huge jaegers fighting against the monstrous kaiju? What about one little hobbit's adventure with a dragon? Why are they less deserving of awards?

Well, if we can't have Oscar, we can instead have Stella! Last year I hosted the Stella Awards here at Stellar Four and I am incredibly happy to say that this is our second year! It's time to award the genre movies that gave us goosebumps and punish the films that didn't deliver on their promises.

Friends, fellow fangirls and boys, I give you... THE 2ND ANNUAL STELLA AWARDS!

Go under the cut for our list of nominees and vote on who should get the coveted golden Stella!

("Most Disappointing Picture" is a brand new category this year. There were so many films with promise this year that fell flat.)

So who will win? Will surprise fan favorite Pacific Rim (and dreamy Idris Elba) sweep the awards? Will Cate Blachett finally get her Stella since she lost last year?

The race to watch is the battle for "Best Supporting Actor", which involves Tom Hiddleston and Benedict Cumberbatch fighting for the award. I think the only way to crown a winner is to have a dance off. Who's with me?

  1. The Hobbit should get much more love, but I thought Pacific Rim was shallow bloat--was very very disappointed, and I thought World War Z was pretty good, though I admit I haven't read the series (but can it possibly diverge from the books more than the Hobbit? ;) I also really liked Man of Steel.
