Giving Thanks

Time for the yearly roundup of things that we are thankful for this year.

Kathy F.

Family, friends, and books, books, books are at the top of the list, of course. When it comes to fun and things I am looking forward to, these two are also very dear.

The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug

A year ago I was very thankful that the first Hobbit movie was almost upon us. This year I am doubly thankful that the second installment is less than a month away. Expecting tons of action, and since Bilbo has already left the Shire, I'm hoping the whole movie moves along as quickly as a three hour movie can go.

LEGOs

Probably my favorite toy ever. It stands as one of the kids' favorites as well. So much creativity and fun from a little plastic block. The family is about to embark on our first trip to LEGOland. I think that the kids might just lose it over the awesomeness. Okay, I might too. Also, in just a few months we will get to see the LEGO movie in the theaters. With Christmas just around the corner, it is a good time to be a LEGO fan.

Benedict Cumberbatch's voice

While I'm not as excited about the Hobbit movies as Kathy is, I am excited when I hear that Cumberbatchian growl in the trailers. Is there anything that velvet purr can't elevate? I swear, I swooned a little every time he spoke in this spring's Star Trek: Into Darkness.

Indie Bookstores

Sometimes when I wanna go where everybody knows my name and they're always glad I came, I head on over to my very favorite indie bookstore. It's such a fantastic place to hang out, have a good conversation with other bibliophiles, sometimes over a beer, and find out about a new book.  I can't think of a place I'd rather hang out.

I'm very thankful for my friends and my family, for books and movies and music... but I'm particularly thankful for one very special thing...

THE INTERNET.

I am so utterly thankful for the internet. I feel like it's where I live now. It's where I've met some of my best friends and some of the most interesting people who populate my life. It's where I find like minded people to obsess over fandom with and it's introduced me my favorite books, bands and films. I don't think I could function without it. Addiction? Maybe. But also heartfelt love. I love you internet, with all your memes and your odd little rules and the wonderful, amazing friends you've given me.

The ladies of Stellar Four wish you and your family a happy Thanksgiving! We are so thankful to have such great readers like you!
