I had so much fun this past weekend in Santa Clara at the Nova Albion Steampunk Convention. Fans came from all around the area to hobnob with authors like Gail Carriger, learn new skills like Sherlock Holmes' style of fighting, and cosplay their hearts out at the Steampunks in Space themed event. I, of course, spent the whole time gawking at everyone's fabulous costumes like the TARDIS one above (her hat even lit up!) and trying not to melt into a puddle of happy goo when I saw two steampunk toddlers and a dog in goggles! So, without further ado, here's round one of my favorite photos from Nova Albion.
I kept checking out everyone's accessories looking for crafting ideas. This gentleman's clock hat is fabulous and doesn't look like it would be too hard to make.
Gail Carriger and Thomas Willeford (the creator behind Nathan Fillion's steampunk moded arm on Castle) were joined by Priscilla Troy. Troy demonstrated a few of the ways in which Victorians flirted using parasols.
I loved these pendants with working clockwork.
A steampunkified Clone Trooper helmet, if I'm not mistaken.
Meet Wiggles. ISN'T SHE ADORABLE?! She fell asleep on my feet during one panel.
There was even a class on how to make fascinators!
The scrollwork on this cosplayer's face are actually scrapbooking stickers!
GAH! This steampunk working taser from the League of S.T.E.A.M. had actual live eels in the glass vial.
Another monster fighting weapon from the League of S.T.E.A.M.
HOW CUTE IS SHE WITH HER SPARKLY SLIPPERS AND GOGGLES?
Cephalopods on top hats were par for the course.
