Seanan McGuire, Sarah Kuhn, and Amber Benson managed to squeeze their combined awesomeness* into San Francisco's Variety Club Preview Room this past Saturday evening to read from their latest works and chat with fans. The event, hosted by SF in SF, was standing room only, but don't worry if you didn't manage to score a spot. We've got you covered with photos and highlights from the event as well as video of (what she assured us was very rare) McGuire reading from her latest book, Midnight Blue-Light Special.
Here's what you missed...
*which, in mathematical terms, is Awesome ³, as each increases the level of awesome exponentially.
The house was packed with fans and friends, some of whom traveled thousands of miles for the chance to listen to the authors.
Amber Benson (you'll remember her from her Calliope Reaper-Jones novels and Buffy the Vampire Slayer) couldn't stop laughing while reading an unintentionally suggestive scene from a previous novel starring a tuna named Skye.
The lovely Ms. Kuhn of One Con Glory fame and Benson read from Kuhn's work in progress starting with a superhero and demon-turned-cupcake foes. It was ah-MAZ-ing. I can't wait to read it.
Vixy of Vixy and Tony and other musicians (sometimes accompanied by McGuire) played some incredible filk music. The standout piece of the evening was Wicked Girls, written by none other than McGuire herself. Listen to a recording of the song from 2010 here. Lyrics are available on the novelist's site.
And now, onto my favorite bit from the evening, Seanan McGuire reading from her latest InCryptid novel.
