What's Your Dream Line-Up for the Olympics Closing Ceremony?

by Sara N.

Danny Boyle gave us a hugely entertaining, occasionally weird, and sadly David Tennant-free opening ceremony at the start of the Olympics two weeks ago. Now, the closing ceremony is almost upon us. What are you hoping to see on Sunday?

As far as I'm concerned, you can keep your Adeles and your Elton Johns and your Spice Girls. My wish for the closing ceremony is simple. All I need is a TARDIS landing on stage, dramatically opening to reveal the following:

  • A trench coat-wearing David Tennant
  • Daniel Radcliff in Harry Potter's spectacles
  • Benedict Cumberbatch scowling at everyone
  • Patrick Stewart in a Star Fleet uniform
  • Maggie Smith carrying the dowager countess' cane
  • Ian McKellen as Gandalf the Gray
  • Colin Firth in Mr. Darcy's trousers
  • Helen Mirren, Kate Winslet and Emma Thomson in evening gowns of their own choosing (because they always look lovely)
  • Ewan McGregor with a light saber
  • Judy Dench dressed as Queen Elizabeth
  • Martin Freeman with a towel slung over his shoulder
  • Sean Bean carrying his own body bag
  • Richard Armitage in his Guy of Gisbane leathers and his horse
  • Alan Rickman in jeans and a snug t-shirt (because seriously, have you ever seen him in jeans and a snug t-shirt?)
  • Julie Andrews in a frock made from curtains
  • Michael York in Logan's snappy jumpsuit
  • Simon Pegg in any damn thing he wants, but preferably a shirt with some red on it

I mean, really, England, is that so much to ask?

  1. So many choices... couldn't we just have them all?

  2. You had me at Colin Firth, 'course, if that hadn't done it, Alan Rickman would have :)

I would like to see some "geekier" choices, I enjoyed Paul McCartney as well as anyone but England has lots more to offer :)
