With Brave so close I can almost taste it (it tastes like movie popcorn and FREEDOM!), I've been thinking about the return of archery in movies. It seems everywhere you look lately, there's a badass holding a quiver. I approve of this. Archers have always been deeply awesome.

In honor of Merida and her awesome archery skills, I bring you a list of the best and coolest archers in movie history!

Hawkeye (The Avengers): Hawkeye is an impressive archer and his high-tech quiver is full of tricks! While other Avengers have superstrength, giant wearable mechs or are gods, Hawkeye holds his own in a firefight with just how arrows. (Plus, did we mention he's ridiculously attractive?)

Legolas (Lord of the Rings): This elf can slay the shit out of some orcs with his fancy arrows. He also has a surprising sense of humor. Legolas is both a faithful friend and important part of the Fellowship. I've got two words for you: Helm's Deep.

Katniss Everdeen (The Hunger Games): Is any list of archers complete without The Girl On Fire? Her stunning archery skills help her go through the horrific gauntlet that is the Hunger Games and help ensure that the odds are in her favor. She's one of the most badass people to ever carry a bow.

Robin Hood (various): Robin Hood is, of course, one of the best archers in the history of film and literature. He robs from the rich, he gives to the poor, he wears tights. What's not to love? One of the most pivotal moments in his mythology is an archery contest which turns out to be a trap. Despite everything, Robin Hood always manages to win. (Mel Brook's Robin Hood is my all time favorite Robin Hood. After all, he DOES speak with an English accent).

Chewbacca (Star Wars): The Wookie has a freakin' CROSSBOW. That is why you always let the Wookie win.

Mulan (Mulan): Disney's Mulan uses her archery skills to save an entire country. If that isn't amazing, I don't know what is. Plus, I still can't get those songs out of my head. I'll make a man out of yooooou!

Did I miss anyone? Let me know in comments!
