The Art of the Repaint

by Megan S.

One of the most amazing aspects of the internet is that it serves as a clearinghouse for art.  From textiles to sculptures to music to virtual 3D environments, it's all floating around the web for people to enjoy.  The best part is, if you poke around a bit, you stumble across art you never knew existed like customizing mass market dolls to create something beautiful and one of a kind.

The Monster High dolls from Mattel serve as tiny canvases for enthusiasts.  Not only do the artists perform painstakingly detailed repainting, they often create costumes, rethread the doll's hair a few strands at a time and even carve new facial features.  These 17 dolls are some of the best and most gorgeous examples of such work.
