Orbit's Short Fiction Program Launches

Orbit Books launched its new short fiction platform Monday.  This entirely digital program allows authors to publish original short stories that are available via all major ebook retailers.  The cost of each piece ranges between $1.99 and $2.99 (at least for this initial set of offerings).

They've picked some great authors to start out with.

Jaye Wells' Violet Tendencies lets you in on what really happened between Valva and Giguhl, sidekick extraordinaire to the half-vampire, half-mage Sabina Kane. (Personally, I've been dying to know.)

Brent Weeks gives us a glimpse of the history of Night Angel Trilogy assassin Durzo Blint in Perfect Shadow.

Apocalypse Scenario #683: The Box is an original and apocalycious piece of short science fiction from Mira Grant, author of Feed (one of my favorite novels of 2010).

Scouting Jasmine by Jennifer Rardin and The Legionnaires by T.C. McCarthy round out the initial offerings.  (I admit, I'm new to these two authors but both stories look amazing.)

I picked up all five of these stories and will report back.  I love this idea and hope Orbit keeps the goods coming!
